Port Harcourt is called the Garden City, the Pearl of the Niger-Delta and where the black gold sits unbridled. While it is important to mention that the city is Nigeria’s oil capital and the third most developed metropolis after Lagos and Abuja, it is also important to mention that it is one of the most developed property markets in Nigeria after Lagos and Abuja. However, amid the oil and energy boom, the bustling and hustling, there are some places in this flourishing metropolitan city of Port Harcourt that offer a getaway from what the core of the city entails. These residential areas are an entire package of serenity and opulence, only suitable for Port Harcourt’s finest and “big boys.”

The title says “Top 5” places to live in Port Harcourt, right? There is a sixth one. It was difficult for me to put it on the list above because it can’t be last or first. This place excites me because it is a conscious, long-term effort by the government to have a new, well-planned city. Soon there will be an old Port Harcourt and a new Port Harcourt. People in the know have bought properties in this area.

The plan for the area is simply breath-taking. “Tell me the area already,” you say. It’s the Greater Port Harcourt City. This area incorporates the entire Port Harcourt LGA, Oyigbo, Okrika, Ogu-Bolo, Obio-Akpor, Ikwerre, Etche and Eleme Local Government Areas.

It’s an open secret that the majority of the property owners in the five areas mentioned above, as well as other wise would-be and new landlords, have been rushing to secure plots in these areas.
